Commitments to Culture, Sports and Recreation

Équipe Tremblay | 22 October 2009

Marcel Tremblay, the Union Montréal candidate for Borough Mayor, accompanied by candidates Mary Deros, Frank Venneri, Sylvain Lachance and Franz Benjamin, today unveiled their commitments to safety, transportation and infrastructure.

“Because health and a good quality of life require a sound body-mind balance, we are committed to providing residents of Villeray – Saint-Michel – Parc Extension with an environment that combines culture and physical activity,” said Marcel Tremblay.

In the cultural sphere, Union Montréal will work conscientiously alongside libraries in building the Patro Le Prévost Library, in harmonizing library hours and in enriching its collections to serve all audiences. In other words, the library will purchase books, audio books, large print books and popular books in all languages.

Union Montréal will also support artistic pursuits in dance, the arts and singing with shows and exhibitions that bring together all of the borough’s cultures and that share traditions.

In terms of sports and recreation, the Marcel Tremblay team intends to bring program activities more closely in line with the public’s needs and expectations. Activities will be organized in parks, time slots will be more accessible to residents and Union Montréal will position the borough to attract schools and elite sports clubs.

“We will promote physical activity among the young and less young by investing in modern playgrounds for children and by equipping the borough with an indoor soccer centre, in view of this sport’s year-round popularity,” noted Marcel Tremblay.

Saint-Michel Nord residents will also be pleased to learn that they can rely on Union Montréal to build the Centre sportif Annexe Louis-Joseph-Papineau.
