Helen Fotopulos, who in 1994 was elected Mayor of Plateau-Mont-Royal Borough and serves on the city’s Executive Committee, is well known on the municipal scene. She was the prime force behind implementing a variety of traffic-calming measures in the Plateau, introducing different forms of citizen participation in the democratic process, demolishing the Parc-Pins interchange and adopting the Mount Royal Protection and Enhancement Plan and the Policy for Equal Participation of Men and Women in Montréal Life.
